Christ the Redeemer is a monument in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is located on top of Corcovado Mountain, 709 meters above sea level. It was inaugurated on October 12, 1931, after nearly five years of work. A symbol of Christianity, the monument has become one of the most internationally-renowned icons of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil.
In a survey conducted by the magazine América Economía, in 2011, Christ the Redeemer was found for 23.5% of respondents as the greatest symbol of Latin America.
