Maracana football stadium
History
Journalist Mário Filho Stadium, better known as Maracanã Maraca popular, is a football stadium in Rio de Janeiro and opened in 1950, having been used in FIFA World Cup that year. Since then, the Maracana was the scene of great moments of Brazilian and world football, as his thousandth goal by Pele, the Brazilian Championship finals and the first FIFA Club World Cup, and international competitions and matches of the Brazilian team.
It was one of the venues of the Pan American Games in 2007, receiving the football, the opening ceremonies and closing ceremonies. Will host the football and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2016 Olympic Games, which will be held in the city of Rio de Janeiro. It is also the likely scene of the final match of the FIFA World Cup 2014.
