Originally designed to accommodate a unit of USP that would be known as cuore (heart) of the University, in which equipment would be gathered to welcome visitors and students to gather (such as bus, restaurants, dormitories, etc.), today this site characterized as a large free space marked by the presence of a monumental tower, designed by architect Rino Levi, in which there is a clock on top (hence the name of the square). In mid-1990 Square undergoing extensive renovations, acquiring the shape it has today. Near the Clock Square located the Conjunto Residencial USP (CRUSP), the building of the Rectory and Raia Olímpica.
