In 1990, a tribute to Ayrton Senna pilot stated the Morro da Urca a Formula 1 car. And more recently, in 2004, the Olympic Torch for the Athens Olympic Games and the Olympic Torch of 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro passed the Sugar Loaf.
The view from the Guanabara Bay, considered one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, was the attraction that brought the curious and mountaineers to climb the Sugar Loaf, back in the late nineteenth century. The development of engineering techniques have led the engineer Augusto Ferreira Ramos to devise a cable car system that would facilitate access to the mountain.
The cable car was built, there were only two in the world: the cable car Monte Ulia, Spain, with a length of 280 meters and was built in 1907, and the lifts Wetterhorn, Switzerland, with a length of 560 meters, built in 1908.
